Looking Back, Moving Forward—One Year from a National Milestone

Dear Friends, Family Historians, and Fellow Guardians of Heritage,

As the United States celebrates its 249th birthday, we stand at the edge of an incredible moment in our shared national story. In just one year, we will mark 250 years since the birth of our nation—a quarter of a millennium of resilience, revolution, and remarkable growth.

But today, on this 249th Independence Day, let us pause and reflect—not just on fireworks, flags, and festivities, but on the generations of Americans who lived, served, struggled, and dreamed to bring us to this point.

As genealogists and researchers, we know that America’s story is our story. It lives in pension files and passenger lists, family scrapbooks and military records, oral traditions and tiny, hand-written notes passed down through generations. Every ancestor we trace, every branch we restore, is a thread in the grand tapestry of this nation's history.

Many of us have uncovered Revolutionary War patriots, Civil War soldiers, immigrants from distant shores, Indigenous ancestors, and freedom fighters of every era. Each discovery is more than a name—it's a voice echoing through time, reminding us that history is not a single narrative, but a chorus of diverse, powerful, and deeply personal stories.

As we lead into America’s 250th birthday in 2026, let this coming year be one of renewed purpose. Let’s preserve more photos, record more stories, document more legacies, and connect more dots. Let’s honor the heroes in our own families—those who built, defended, and dreamed of a better America.

To all who work tirelessly to preserve family history and honor our ancestors’ military service and cultural legacy: thank you. Your dedication ensures that our national milestone will be marked not only by celebrations but by remembrance, recognition, and reverence.

So here’s to 249 years of America—and to all of you who help ensure that the next 250 will never forget the stories of the past.

Wishing all our followers and fellow genealogists a joyful and meaningful Independence Day! As we celebrate the birth of our nation, we honor the ancestors who helped shape its story—through service, sacrifice, and everyday strength. Thank you for the work you do to preserve family history, heritage, and the legacies that continue to inspire us all. Here's to freedom, remembrance, and the power of our shared past!
